When anglers first cast out a Salmo Skinner, the first words out of their mouth are: "Wow, the lure comes to life!" That is the best description for the action of the Salmo Skinner. Available in two sizes, the realistic action of the large profile Skinner and its high floatation make this bait a favorite with anglers who like to work large "twitch baits" for pike and muskie.

SALMO CONTROL

The lure so closely resembles a real baitfish, the seagulls are easily fooled, so fish with care. Deadly as a trolling lure, the wide sweeping action of the Skinner really gets the attention of big fish. Read More ...
The tuff, solid body design holds up well to the teeth and abuse of catching several big fish. The great action, great looks and durable construction make the Salmo Skinner one of the best big fish baits you could use this season. Wire leaders are a must for this bait since pike and muskie will be prone to miss the lure and hit your line just in front lure if it if you are not careful. This is especially true when you are casting the lure and working the Skinner with a stop and go action.
To be completely fair, we recommend the Skinner 20 as a jerkbait only to experienced pike and muskie anglers. The reason for this is that the Skinner 20 can be a real beast to retrieve for those not experienced with big baits. The Skinner 20 IS a great choice for trollers of any experience level. The Skinner 15 is a lot easier to cast and retrieve if this is the only way you can fish.
To properly work the Skinner, keep your rod tip pointed downward and keep reeling even as you pull downward on the rod. You can pull fast with short jerks, or make longer pulls, but you need to keep reeling and keep your line tight at all times. The Skinner is very buoyant and a constant forward motion keeps the bait from rising to the surface. Many anglers who fish the Skinner also like to fish it with a slow steady retrieve and only occasionally snap the rod tip downward. If you keep the top fin on the bait right on the surface, it kind of looks like a shark coming through the water.
